for significant lapses which may result in liability.
Use of Force and De-Escalation Procedures

Part Three will focus on police use of force and de-escalation. The legal authority to use force is one of the most significant aspects of policing, and this section will help municipal officials and police leaders meet their constitutional obligation to ensure officers use force reasonably. It will also address the use of de-escalation techniques, which can help safely resolve some police incidents with little or no force.
